School newspaper
The “Głos Siódemki” newspaper is made by students – you can write, take photos, draw or lay out the issue.
How to join
Come to a newspaper team meeting – on Wednesdays after lessons, in room 22. The team is open to students in Grades 5–8 and welcomes new members all year round. You don't need to sign up or bring a sample text.
There is room on the editorial team for all kinds of people:
- writers – reports, interviews, reviews, columns;
- photographers – photos from events, following the rules described below;
- illustrators – illustrations, comics, the cover;
- layout designers – page layout, choice of fonts, preparing for print;
- editors – proofreading, shortening texts, keeping to deadlines.
The last role is the least visible and the most needed.
How an issue is made
An issue comes out five times a year: in October, December, February, April and June. Work on each one takes about six weeks.
Editorial meeting
Six weeks before publication we decide on topics and share out the work.
Gathering material
From the fifth to the third week before publication you write, take photos and draw.
Editing and proofreading
Two weeks before publication we edit the texts and agree changes with the authors.
Layout
A week before publication we lay out the pages and prepare the issue for print.
Printing and distribution
On publication day the issue goes to the classes, the library and the staff room.
What you can publish
Anything about the school or that interests students: event reports, interviews with teachers and students, reviews of books, games and films, pieces about hobbies, comics and photo reports.
We do not publish content that insults specific people, violates someone's privacy or is copied from the internet without citing the source. We publish photos of students only if their parents have consented to publication of their image.
The editors may shorten a text and correct mistakes. We discuss bigger changes with the author.
Photos – rules
When you take photos for the newspaper, the same rules apply to you as to the school:
- you ask permission from the person you are photographing;
- for each issue, you only submit photos of students whose parents have consented to publication of their image – the editorial supervisor has the list;
- you don't publish photos of people who don't want them published;
- you don't take photos in private places – the cloakroom, toilets, offices;
- for group photos, you choose shots where faces cannot be seen, or check the consents with the editorial supervisor.
Back issues
All published issues of “Głos Siódemki” are in the school library. You can read them there or borrow them, just like a book.
