Sport at school
After lessons you can train in one of four sports sections – free of charge and with no entry tests.
Sports activities after lessons
There are no trials or fitness tests. You come to the first training session in September and start training. Sessions are run by PE teachers.
| Activity | Grades | How often |
|---|---|---|
| Handball – girls | 5–8 | twice a week |
| Handball – boys | 5–8 | twice a week |
| Basketball | 6–8 | twice a week |
| Dance classes | 1–4 | once a week |
Training days and times are posted on the board by the gym, and in September we announce them in the news.
Corrective gymnastics is not a sports section. It is a separate class for Grades 1–3, to which a teacher or doctor refers children who need posture exercises.
Sport in numbers
Inter-school competitions
We compete in municipal and district competitions in handball, basketball, volleyball, cross-country running, relays and table tennis.
For sports outside the sections, PE teachers prepare students in lessons and at training before competitions. We pick people who train regularly for the school team. The teacher sets the squad before each competition. We give results with the class or team name, without surnames.
Sports events at school
February
School handball championship
An inter-class tournament. The teams are made up of students from one class.
April
School basketball championship
A second inter-class tournament, played in the gym.
May
Konopnicka Run
A school cross-country run in the park next to the school, in four age categories. About 150 people take part every year. Written consent from a parent is required.
June
Sports Day
Team events for all classes. Fun and cooperation are what count, so there is no individual ranking.
Where we exercise
We have a gym, a movement room, a multi-purpose playing field and a running track. After lessons, from 15:00 to 17:00, the gym and field are used for sports activities. You always use the facilities under a teacher's supervision.
For PE and training bring sportswear and clean indoor shoes that you wear only in the gym.
Exemption from PE
If a doctor recommends a break from exercise, your parent submits an application to the head teacher together with the doctor's opinion. The exemption may cover all PE lessons or only certain exercises.
If you are excused from exercise, you stay in the lesson under the teacher's supervision. The exception is the first or last lesson of the day – then you can come later or leave earlier if a parent gives written consent.
