Health care
Here we describe the school health office, dental care and what we do when a child falls ill or has an accident at school.
School nurse's office
| Health office | |
|---|---|
| Times | Monday, Wednesday, Friday 8:00–15:00 |
| Location | ground floor, next to the school office |
| Led by | school nurse |
The school nurse is employed by a health clinic that works with the school. Care is free of charge and publicly funded.
What the school nurse does
- helps with sudden illness and injuries at school;
- carries out screening in selected grades: height and weight, posture, vision, hearing, blood pressure;
- looks after students with chronic illnesses;
- runs sessions on health and hygiene;
- advises parents and teachers on children's health.
A parent may object to their child receiving preventive health care. The objection is submitted in writing at the school office.
Dental care
Students are cared for by a dental surgery that works with the school. The surgery is outside the school building, on ul. Modrzewiowa.
The care includes dental check-ups, tooth decay prevention and publicly funded treatment. For dental care, the parent gives written consent, submitted at the school office.
Illness during lessons
A child who feels unwell goes to the nurse's office. When the nurse is not in, the school office looks after them. We always phone the parent.
A sick child is collected by a parent or an authorised person. We never send a sick child home alone, regardless of age or distance.
Medicines at school
We give medicines at school only to children with chronic illnesses, such as diabetes, epilepsy, asthma or severe allergy. In that case the parent submits a written request with a medical certificate.
The certificate states the name of the medicine, the dose and how it is given. On this basis we set the procedure and designate trained staff.
A child with a chronic illness should have a supply of emergency medicine at school. We label the medicine with the child's name and keep it in an agreed place.
Accidents at school
First aid
A teacher or the nurse gives first aid. If necessary we call an ambulance.
Phoning the parent
We inform the parent straight after giving help and agree who will collect the child.
Accident report
We write a report on every accident. The parent receives a copy and may raise objections to it.
Notifying the insurer
If the child is insured, the report will be useful when making a claim under accident insurance (NNW).
