Parents’ council
The Parents' Council represents all parents, gives its opinion on school documents and manages its own budget from contributions.
Who makes up the Parents' Council
The Council is made up of representatives of the class parents' committees, one person from each class and each pre-school class. Parents elect them at the first meeting in September.
The Council elects from among its members an executive – a chair, deputy chair, treasurer and secretary – and an audit committee. The term lasts one school year, and the Council meets at least four times a year.
We do not publish the names of Council members on the website, as they are private individuals. The executive's members are introduced to parents at meetings, and you can ask about them at the school office.
Parents' Council Executive
The mailbox is handled by the executive. Matters can also be raised through your class representative.
Powers of the Parents' Council
The Council has a real influence on school life. Its powers come from education law:
- adopts the school's education and prevention programme in agreement with the teaching staff council;
- gives its opinion on the school's draft financial plan;
- gives its opinion on the programme for improving the effectiveness of teaching or upbringing;
- gives its opinion on introducing additional educational activities;
- puts forward proposals on all school matters to the head teacher, the teaching staff council and the governing authority;
- raises and spends its own funds.
Contribution
The Council sets the contribution amount every year at its first meeting; it is usually about 50.00 zł per family. A family with several children at the school pays one contribution.
Payments are made to the Parents' Council's separate bank account. In the transfer reference give the class, without the child's name.
What the money is spent on
The Council presents a financial report twice a year: in January for the first semester and in May for the whole school year. A typical breakdown of spending looks like this:
| Purpose | Share |
|---|---|
| Subsidising class trips and outings | 30% |
| Prizes in school competitions and at the end of the year | 20% |
| Additional equipment for the library and after-school club | 20% |
| School events, such as the family picnic and the fair | 15% |
| Emergency help for students in difficult circumstances | 10% |
| Reserve | 5% |
Emergency support is granted at the request of the form teacher or school counsellor, anonymously. The executive does not learn the family's details.
How to apply for funding
The application is submitted by the form teacher or the teacher in charge, at least three weeks before the planned expense. The executive considers applications at its next meeting.
Parents can suggest ideas for spending through their class representative or directly to the Council's address.
