About the school

We are a public primary school with pre-school classes, operating in Zielonogaj since 1962.

    Who we are

We are an eight-year primary school run by the Municipality of Zielonogaj. The school also has three pre-school classes for five- and six-year-olds. Since 1978 we have been named after Maria Konopnicka.

We work in a single building on Akacjowa Street, in a quiet residential area. Most of our students live in the school's catchment area and walk to school.

    How we work

One shift. All classes start between 8:00 and 9:00, and compulsory lessons end at 15:20 at the latest. The canteen serves lunch in two sittings, during the long breaks.

Home classrooms up to Grade 6. Grades 1–6 have their own classroom, which they return to after lessons in specialist rooms. Grades 7 and 8 learn in subject rooms.

Groups where it matters. Foreign languages and IT are taught in groups of up to 15 students. We teach English from Grade 1 and German from Grade 7.

    What we do differently

A year-long project in every class. In September each class chooses a topic and works on it all year across different subjects. In June the class presents the result: an exhibition, a game, a guidebook or a play.

The school garden as a classroom. Behind the sports field we have raised beds and a wildflower meadow, created by students and parents. We hold science and biology lessons there. In the summer holidays volunteer families look after the garden according to a rota.

Support without labels. Catch-up and enrichment classes run in parallel, at the same times. Students choose what they need in a given term and are not permanently assigned to any group.

    Everyday life at our school

    A building accessible to everyone

The building has three floors. A lift serves all floors, the main entrance has a ramp, and there is an accessible toilet on every floor.

We have 26 classrooms, four specialist subject rooms, a gym, a library with a reading room, a canteen with its own kitchen and four after-school club rooms. Outside there is a multi-purpose sports field with a running track, playgrounds and the school garden.

    Our catchment area

The school's catchment area covers streets in the north-western part of Zielonogaj. Children living in the catchment area are admitted on the basis of their parents' registration. The full list of streets is published on the catchment area page.
