School history
Since 1962 we have been teaching in the same building on Akacjowa Street, which has grown together with the school for six decades.
How the school began
The school opened in 1962 for children from a new housing estate in the north-western part of the town. In the first year we had 320 students in twelve classes.
The first building had only classrooms and a staff room. The gym, after-school club and canteen with a kitchen were added in 1974. The school has been named after Maria Konopnicka since 1978.
Later came more specialist rooms, sports fields and facilities. We have gathered the most important changes on the timeline below.

From the school chronicle
Graduates
Over more than sixty years, several thousand students have graduated from our school. Many of them now send their own children here.
Every June we invite graduates to meet the eighth-graders. They talk about further education, work and what they took away from school.
My best memory is the drama club. Thanks to it, I stopped being afraid of speaking in front of people.
My son learns in the classroom where I once sat at a desk myself. The building has a lift and new windows, but I still remember the corridors.
I spent every break in the library. I still read two books a month.
School chronicle
We have kept the chronicle continuously since 1962. Today it fills twelve volumes kept in the school library. It can be viewed on site by arrangement with the school librarian.
Help us complete our history
We are still collecting materials for the school's history. We would welcome photos, documents and memories from your time at our school.
We scan the originals and return them to the owner. We are most short of materials from the 1980s and 1990s.
