Safe way to school
We give tips on how to walk, drive and park so that mornings in front of the school are safe for all children.
On foot
Most students live in the school's catchment area and walk to school. Routes from the housing estate follow pavements and cross at two pedestrian crossings with traffic lights: on Lipowa Street and at the junction of Akacjowa and Parkowa.
Before the start of the school year, it is worth walking the whole route with your child a few times, at the time they will be walking it alone. The point is to practise decisions: where to stop, where to look and what to do if the traffic lights are not working.
In September, Grades 1–3 practise crossing the road safely with their form teacher.
When a child can walk alone
Children under seven may only walk on a public road accompanied by a person aged at least ten. This also applies to children from the pre-school classes.
Whether an older child travels to school on their own is up to the parent, who knows their child best.
A child registered at the after-school club may leave alone only with a parent's written consent stating the time of leaving.
By bike and scooter
A student who has turned ten may ride a bike on public roads after obtaining a cycling licence. We hold the cycling licence exam in Grade 4, in technology lessons.
In front of the school there is a covered rack for 30 bikes, within range of a CCTV camera. Please lock bikes and scooters. We recommend wearing a helmet.
By car
Between 7:30 and 8:00 the area in front of the school is at its busiest. Please follow a few rules that make everyone safer.
The lay-by is for short stops
The drop-off bay is for short stops only, so everyone can drop off their child quickly.
Turn around away from the entrance
Please turn around further away from the entrance, where it is safer for children. The nearest safe place is on Lipowa Street.
Keep the crossing and pavement clear
Please do not stop on the crossing or on the pavement. A child stepping out from behind a car cannot be seen by drivers.
The last 150 metres on foot
You can park on Lipowa Street and walk with your child. It is usually quicker than queuing for the lay-by.
Free school transport
School transport is organised by the municipality. It is available to children living in the school's catchment area: from pre-school classes and Grades 1–4 when they live more than 3 kilometres from the school. For students in Grades 5–8, the limit is 4 kilometres.
The municipality provides free supervised transport or reimburses travel costs. Applications are submitted to the municipal office.
