Safe holidays: by the water, in the mountains and on a bike

Published: 22 June 2026 Categories: Safety

In our last form periods we talked with pupils about staying safe during the holidays. Below we have gathered some rules and places where you can look for help.

Form teachers discussed with their classes swimming only in supervised areas, hiking on trails, and riding bikes and scooters. Younger classes practised giving their address and a parent's phone number.

Older classes talked about staying safe online during free time: sharing photos and location, and contact with strangers. You can remind your child of these rules before they go away.

    Questions before the holidays

    Where can my child swim?

Only at supervised bathing areas, in the zone marked out by the lifeguard. Younger children always swim under an adult's supervision.

How can I check a summer camp organiser?

Organised holidays for children must be registered in a database run by the regional education authority. It is worth checking before signing a contract.

Who can my child talk to about a problem during the holidays?

Their parents or another trusted adult. There is also a free 24-hour helpline for children and young people: 116 111.
