Reading Together: older students read to pre-schoolers

In the Reading Together project, students from Grades 6–8 read to children from the pre-school classes once a week. Ten new readers joined the group in the second term.
Reading aloud takes place on Thursdays during after-school club time. Each reader has a regular group and chooses the book themselves, after checking it with the class teacher.
The pre-schoolers look forward to these sessions and ask for the next parts of their favourite stories. The older students learn to read clearly and hold their listeners' attention.
The youngest children listen more closely when someone older from school reads to them rather than an adult. For the readers, it is their first real audience.
You can join the readers' group at any time. Just sign up at the library or at a volunteer club meeting.
