Educational requirements
Educational requirements state what a student should know and be able to do to get a particular grade in a subject.
Who prepares them and when we learn about them
The requirements are prepared by the teacher on the basis of the core curriculum and the syllabus. They are agreed with the team of teachers of that subject, so they are the same in all classes.
The teacher presents the requirements to students in the first lessons in September. Parents learn about them at the first meeting with the form teacher.
Requirement levels
| Level | Grade | What it means |
|---|---|---|
| Essential | sufficient | basic knowledge and skills needed for further learning |
| Basic | satisfactory | the most important content applied in typical situations |
| Extended | good | good command of the content and applying it independently |
| Advanced | very good | confidently applying knowledge in new situations and solving problems |
| Beyond the curriculum | excellent | knowledge and skills beyond the curriculum, independent exploration, success in competitions |
The levels build on each other. To get a higher grade, a student must also meet the requirements of all the lower levels.
Where to find the requirements for a subject
Teachers publish the requirements for every subject and every grade in the e-register, in the subject description. A printed set is also available from the subject teacher and in the library.
The general assessment rules are set out in the school's internal assessment rules, which are part of the statute.
Adapting requirements
| Legal basis | How we adjust |
|---|---|
| Opinion from the psychological and educational counselling centre | as soon as the opinion is delivered to the school office, with no separate application |
| Statement of special educational needs | in the individual educational and therapeutic programme |
| Assessment by teachers and specialists at school | when a student has difficulties, even without a document from the counselling centre |
Exemption from classes
The head teacher excuses a student from PE on the basis of a doctor's opinion. They may excuse a student from learning a second foreign language in cases set out in the regulations, on the basis of an opinion or certificate from the counselling centre. The parent submits the request.
In that case, instead of a grade, “exempt” is entered on the certificate and in the records.
