Pi Day: maths stations in the corridors

As part of the Maths Around Us project, Grades 4–8 solved tasks at six stations set up around the school, from measuring circumferences to estimating the number of beans.
Pi Day falls on 14 March, because in American notation the date looks like 3.14. To mark the occasion, six task stations were set up in the corridors, where classes worked in groups during maths lessons.
At one station, pupils measured the circumference and diameter of plates from the canteen to work out an approximation of pi on their own. At another, they estimated how many beans fit in a jar and checked how close they were.
The stations were prepared by the maths teachers, led by Robert Kwiatkowski. The best approximation from measuring the plates came from a group in class 7B: 3.138.
