School psychologist

    School psychologist Tomasz Wiśniewski holds consultations for students and parents, helps in a crisis and runs group sessions.

    Office hours

    DayTimes
    Tuesday8:00–14:00
    Thursday10:00–16:00

    The psychologist's office is on the ground floor, next to the school counsellor's office. In an emergency the psychologist also comes outside these hours, when called by a form teacher, the school counsellor or the school office.

    What you can come with

    You don't need to have a serious problem. The most common reasons for coming are:

    • strong stress, anxiety about tests or exams;
    • difficulties in relationships, loneliness, conflicts, feeling rejected;
    • a change in family life, such as moving house, parents separating, or the illness or death of someone close;
    • low mood, lack of energy, losing interest in things that used to be enjoyable;
    • difficulties with sleep, concentration or eating;
    • worrying thoughts that are hard to tell anyone about;
    • needing to talk for no particular reason.

    The last reason is just as important as the others.

    Ways of working

    One-to-one consultations with a student, a parent or both together. They usually last 45 minutes.

    Crisis support, i.e. a quick response outside the schedule when the situation requires it.

    Group sessions developing emotional and social skills, in classes and in mixed-class groups.

    Workshops on learning techniques, coping with exam stress and relationships in class.

    Consultations for teachers on working with a class and with individual students.

    Help in finding further support. When help from outside school is needed, the psychologist helps choose a service and prepare for the first visit.

    How to arrange a conversation

    A student comes during office hours, without an appointment and without their parents' consent. They can come with a friend if that makes it easier.

    A parent arranges an appointment via the e-register or comes during office hours. The first meeting doesn't commit you to anything.

    Confidentiality

    Conversations are confidential. The psychologist passes on to parents what is needed to help the child, after talking with the student. To teachers, only as much as they need to support the student in lessons.

    The exception is a threat to the health or life of the student or another person. Then the psychologist is obliged to act and inform the parents and, if necessary, the relevant institutions. When the threat concerns the family, they follow the child protection standards and the Blue Card procedure. They say this at the start of the conversation.
